William Soeryadjaya (December 22, 1922 - April 2, 2010), born in Majalengka, was an Indonesian businessman who co-founded Astra International, Indonesia's largest automobile retailer.[1]
Soeryadjaya co-founded founded Astra, then a trading company, in 1957.[1] The company grew to become Indonesia's largest automobile retailers and the country's biggest company by market value.[1] The company, which also owns finance, palm oil and automotive businesses, sells Honda motorcycles and Toyota vehicles throughout Indonesia.[1] In March 2010, Astra overtook Telkom Indonesia to become Indonesia's most valuable company.[1]
In 2009, Forbes Magazine rated the Soeryadjaya family as Indonesia's 18th wealthiest family.[1]
William Soeryadjaya died at Medistra Hospital in Jakarta at 22:43 p.m. on April 2, 2010, at the age of 87.[1] Astra's president director, Michael Ruslim also died on January 20, 2010, from dengue fever.[1]
